The attacking idea

Take e5 with check, then follow the diagonal to the rook on h8.

The temptation

Gaining time or taking material looks useful, but allows a check that also attacks h8.

If they defend

Answer the immediate threat and keep the rook safe before chasing the queen.

Accurate defence can leave the attacker behind in material or development.

They take the bait

1. e4 1… e5 2. Qh5 2… g6 3. Qxe5+ 3… Be7 4. Qxh8

They defend

1. e4 1… e5 2. Qh5 2… Nc6 3. Bc4 3… g6 4. Qf3 4… Nf6
