Tempo — your next chess move, explained.

Play for either side, practice against a computer, or arrange a chess position. Tempo uses Stockfish 19 Lite to suggest moves and explain board patterns in plain English.

How to use the chess playground

1. Click a piece and a legal destination, or drag a legal move to play.
2. Add pieces from the trays, or load a FEN in Position setup to explore a position.
3. Choose Calculate best moves for suggestions. Preview a reply or continuation, then return to your game.

Local analysis, with clear limits

Analysis runs in your browser. Games autosave in this browser when storage is available. Short engine searches and explanations based on board patterns are learning aids; they do not prove every tactic or guarantee the best strategic plan. Move grades can change with deeper analysis.
