Queen’s Gambit

The pawn chain exposes a rook

The attacking idea

Undermine b5 with a4, then bring the queen to f3 to attack the loose rook on a8.

The temptation

Supporting the extra pawn with c6 opens a long diagonal toward a8 after the exchanges.

If they defend

Develop with Nf6 and return the c4 pawn instead of trying to hold it at any cost.

Look for the tactic as you develop. The opponent can choose a different route.
